When most couples dream of a romantic getaway or a couple’s photoshoot in Puglia, they instantly think of the famous spots near Bari. You’ve probably heard of the dramatic cliffs of Polignano a Mare, the unique trulli houses of Alberobello, or the whitewashed streets of Ostuni. But what lies deeper, further down into the heel of Southern Italy?
Enter Otranto. In my opinion, Otranto is one of the most underrated photoshoot backgrounds in all of Puglia. Beyond its beautiful sea, it truly is a hidden gem for an editorial, high-end photoshoot, where the real magic lies within its ancient streets.
A Whisper of History in Every Stone
To shoot in Otranto is to capture your love story inside a living piece of history. This town has survived for over two thousand years, shaped by Greek, Roman, and Byzantine influences. As you walk through the old town, you are surrounded by walls built from the famous local limestone and sandstone, known as tufo, carparo, and Lecce stone. These warm-toned stones soak up the Southern Italian sun, creating a natural golden-hour glow that looks incredibly flattering on camera.
The crown jewel decorating the entire old town is the magnificent Aragonese Castle (Castello Aragonese). Rebuilt in the late 15th century with massive towers and a moat, it adds a cinematic, almost fairytale-like grandeur to your photos.
Charming Streets & Post-Shoot Magic
What makes Otranto the perfect destination for a couple’s session? It’s the beautiful labyrinth of narrow, charming streets. As you wander through the old town, you'll discover lovely details—a beautiful cactus leaning against a sunlit wall, historical architecture, and romantic little corners that serve as the most perfect, natural backdrops for your love story.
And the best part? After we finish capturing your beautiful moments, the old town is filled with tiny boutique shops and cozy cafes. You can easily transition from your photoshoot into a romantic date, enjoying an espresso or an Aperol Spritz while soaking in the local atmosphere.
From the Promenade to Your Honeymoon
Beyond the historic center, Otranto boasts a beautiful seaside promenade and a vibrant port. Because it sits on the absolute easternmost tip of Italy, the views are breathtaking. In fact, on a clear day, you can actually see the Albanian coastline from the castle walls.
Here is the ultimate romantic idea: since the Adriatic and Ionian seas meet here, you can easily take a boat or ferry across the water straight to Albania or the Greek islands. Imagine having your breathtaking destination wedding or engagement shoot in Otranto, and then hopping directly on a boat to begin your Mediterranean honeymoon!
If you are looking for an exclusive, magical, and entirely underrated location in Puglia for your next photoshoot, Otranto and me are waiting for YOU!
